I want a tattoo but I'm on a budget, how do you determine pricing?
Pricing varies based on which artist you book with, as well as the size and level of detail in the design. Some artists charge by the hour and others give a flat rate based on the clients ideas. If you have a budget you would like to stick to, please let us know and we will get you set up with the right artist for your project
-
Are touch-ups free?
Generally, for smaller tattoos, we offer one free touch up (with the exception of hand tattoos) However, a touch up varies greatly from re-working an entire tattoo. Often, an artist is needed to determine if the tattoo qualifies as a touch up or re-work, but the main difference is a re-work requires several hours of tattoo time and is priced accordingly. Please contact your artist to discuss pricing on freshening up an existing piece done at our studio. There are several factors in determining what makes sense cost wise on a touch up and are handled according to each clients needs
-
Do you allow children in the shop?
We strongly advise against it- particularly for tattoo appointments. There’s several reasons for that, but put simply, a tattoo studio is not meant to be a kid-friendly environment, and getting a tattoo is meant to be your time to relax. You likely wouldn’t bring a child to a spa or massage appt, so take this time for yourself. It’s going on you forever, so being present is really important.
It’s impossible to be present or have a relaxing experience when you’re trying to watch your children while getting tattooed. Additionally, any sort of roughhousing or misbehaving, runs the risk of us needing to reschedule the appointment for when you are kid-free, so it’s best to just leave them at home and reschedule if you can’t find a sitter.

Why do I have to pay a deposit? Can i get a refund if i change my mind?
As a general rule, all deposits by definition typically are non-refundable. If you’re on the fence about getting a tattoo, or even what you have in mind for the design itself, we always recommend waiting until you’re totally certain you’d like to move forward with the desired project.
The deposit acts as a clear indicator of the agreed commitment between ciient and artist. The policy serves to protect both our artists and clients, serving as added documentation of the agreed upon time, design, and placement for the tattoo appointment. This helps prevent no shows, and further confusion down the line.
in the event of a “no show”, it acts as a design fee, as no shows are nearly impossible to fill.
Being that tattoo artists do not get paid if they are not tattooing, any changes to designs or last minute requests can seriously impact their schedule.
Given no call no shows do not allow artists time to get another client in for the open availability, a “no call, no show” will typiclaly result in being blacklisted from our studio.artist.
Each artist handles their schedules individually. Therefore, we do not allow for deposit transfers between artists, so the best course of action if you’re unsure is to wait to schedule. If you leave a deposit and don’t show, you run the risk of getting on an artists “do not book” list- so we always suggest waiting to schedule in the event you’re not 100% certain on an idea. We’re not going anywhere and will be here when you’re ready!
If you’d like more insight into this aspect of our process, you’re welcome to view a copy of our deposit agreement. Our studio policies and stipulations are clearly outlined in our deposit agreement, which each client receives and signs off on at the time of scheduling.

Additionally, we provide a small sample of healing ointment in your aftercare instruction packet. This usually provides a sufficient amount to get you through the healing process without having to purchase any tattoo-specific ointment, but you can purchase more if needed at tattoostuff.com. What happens if I do not show up to my appointment without notifying my artist or the studio beforehand?
Being that tattoo artists do not get paid if they are not tattooing, any changes to designs or last minute requests can seriously impact their schedule.
in the event of a “no show”, a client forfeits their deposit, and then serves as a design fee. This is because no shows are nearly impossible to fill, in addition to the unnecessary time the artist took to design a tattoo that would not be completed. Along with that, they’ve missed out on time they could be working on designs for the serious clients on their schedule.
Given no call no shows do not allow artists time to get another client in for the open availability, a “no call, no show” will typically result in being blacklisted from our studio artist.

Years of experience in the tattoo industry has given us insight on potential risks/side effects and how to avoid/combat them. However, that being said- if you’re at all concerned, please consult your doctor. We strongly advise not seeking advice from the internet, as we’d hate to see anyone have a reaction become worse from improper advice.
On rare occasions, our advice may be “consult your doctor” as a tattoo is essentially an open wound, so caring for it properly is of upmost importance- especially early on in the healing process. While it’s incredibly rare we see a client have a reaction that requires medical attention from a doctor, it’s important to understand the risks involved in getting tattooed and follow the proper healing instructions. For our tips on how to ensure you have the best experience and your tattoo stands the test of time, be sure to click the link in the dropdown menu labeled “taking care of your new tattoo”.
your deposit will be Forfeited & your appointment rebooked if:you show up to your appointment and are pregnant or breastfeeding ( happy to rebook your appointment for once you’re done!)
you show up to your appointment visibly intoxicated (rescheduling is based on artists discretion & such action may result in being blacklisted)
The best tattoos derive from creative collaboration between the artist & client.
We believe that relationship doesn’t end when a client walks out the door: when it comes to healing your tattoo, or any other tattoo related questions or concerns, our inbox is always open!
tattoo FAQ cont'd.-
The first step in getting started working with an artist at our studio is sending in your design for an artist to review. You can email us your ideas/photos to info@facesinthedark.com.
Please include photos of what you would like to get done, as well as a photo of the placement. At that point, your inquiry will be forwarded to your preferred artist, or an artist that would be best suited for the project. Once we receive feedback from the artist on your ideas, we will get back to you with the next steps and information on pricing, when they’re scheduling, etc.
For larger projects and tattoo ideas they may require more clarification on, typically the next step would be scheduling a consultation to meet the artist and discuss the ideas in person. For folks that are not local, we frequently do FaceTime consultations as well.
At that point, clients are have an option to schedule provided with a quote, etc. If they chose to schedule once an artist has approved their design, a deposit is necessary to secure a spot on an artists calendar. Deposits are nonrefundable, range in price from $50-$500 depending on the scale of the project/tattoo design, and come off the cost of the tattoo (for single session tattoos, its deducted off the total during check out. For large scale/multi-appointment pieces, the deposit comes off the last appointment/when the tattoo is completed.

Generally, the answer is no. There’s a few reasons, but in short, its because they design a tattoo with the placement on the body and other aspects in mind, as well as time restraints with their schedule. However, you’re welcome to consult with the artist you’re interested in working with, as some of our team has done designs in the past for compensation.

While there are minor risks with tattoo inks causing a reaction regardless of the precautionary measures an artist takes, it’s extremely rare a client has issues due to the inks being used. what’s important is mitigating those risks to the best of our ability, by using the industry’s best brands and having our artists certified in BBP, as well as having an understanding of cross contamination and the consequences of that. There may be trace amounts of heavy metals in inks, but it has not be shown to affect the body whatsoever. For a deeper understanding on tattoo inks, please read below.

Yes, all of the ink brands our artists use in our shop are considered vegan. For more information on tattoo inks and their ingredients, you can check out each brands website to get a list of the ingredients they use. If it’s not on the website, most companies will provide that information if you reach out directly.
The brands our artists use (but are not limited to) include : eternal ink, dynamic, fusion, & solid ink.

No. Because of the potential risk of infection, we recommend waiting until after you’re finished breastfeeding to get tattooed. If you’ve already scheduled an appointment and become pregnant, we will honor your deposit at a later date. You may find conflicting answers on Google about getting tattooed while pregnant, but we believe it’s simply not worth the risk to put added stress on the body and the immune system in this situation.
-
If you’re sick, please reschedule. We require a 24 hour notice to keep your deposit and reschedule without leaving another one to secure a new appointment. in this instance, we aim to be flexible, as we know nobody wants to be sick. Please let us know ASAP as their schedules are planned in advance and it can be difficult to fill appointment slots last minute. The more notice we have, the more accommodating to a clients needs we can be.
In the event you arrive visibly sick to your appointment, we reserve the right to refuse service. Not only does our team not want to get sick and have to reschedule our other appointments, but getting a tattoo also puts strain on the immune system. If you’re trying to heal from being sick and a tattoo at the same time, there’s a higher risk for complications in the healing process and beyond.
